Hello again Dear Friends,
Last week Im on my regular morning hike with my two golden retrievers. Im in the foothills of Morrison, Co and unfortunately my mind became focused on the current events of the day. It was a beautiful warm summer morning, and I was fully immersed in the beauty of my surroundings and the wonderful life I live when, for whatever reason, the focus changed: Know what I mean?
Suddenly, for reasons Im not sure of, I started thinking about the shooting down of the Malaysian plane, the fighting in Israel and Gaza, the kidnapped girls in Africa, the violence in Iraq and Afghanistan, and all the people I know here in the US with personal, financial, or health issues. The polar opposites between my personal life experience and all these incidents hit me hard!
I know I preach to watch and listen to less of the daily news, and yes I do that, but sometimes just being informed, brings current events to the forefront. How then do we stay in a happy positive vibrational state with all this STUFF going on around the world?
There is no easy answer, but heres how I handle it. I begin by admitting to myself that being a bit selfish about my own sense of well being is perfectly fine. Its certainly normal and even admirable to offer assistance and compassion to those in need, or feel some anger to the perpetrators, but its still my job to figure out how to enjoy MY life and remain happy and positive.
I find it helpful to remember the eternal nature of mans Soul and like it or not admit that this type of stuff has been occurring on planet Earth for thousands of years. Our planet is a free will zone and the ego of man seemingly has always caused conflict. The current nature and the speed and size of the electronic media brings most worldwide conflicts to our attention in minutes. Yes, this keeps us informed, but if we allow it, also burdens us with everyones problems and fears.
I find it critical to remember just how many people on the planet are not subject to random violence, but regularly enjoy life from a place of safety and relative abundance. The media, if we focus on it alone, makes us feel as if everywhere we look, violence, poverty, and lack prevail, and this is just not the truth. Tens of millions of people on Earth, and on any given day, have ample food, clothing, shelter, and safety, but this is typically not newsworthy and rarely brought to our attention.
When I take a moment to embrace and be thankful for the relative safety, abundance, and joy that surrounds me I am able to detach from all the negative stories from media and friends. When we look at our planet, our friends and family, and our own lives, its always the same...........Is the glass half full or half empty. Day to day peace and happiness comes down to a choice of personal focus, whats yours?
How do we gain control of our personal focus and vibration? This is what I teach, write and speak about, and the answer lies within a daily meditation practice, awareness of thoughts and emotions, some physical effort and lots of practice.
Everything we are good at has taken much practice, and for the most part we accept that. Why then are so many doubtful when I suggest that a life of peace and happiness takes some work and effort and thats its not necessarily a God given gift?
As I do over and over again I will end this edition with this fact: The life we are currently living is primarily the product of our accumulated thoughts, emotions, beliefs, words, and actions! Work and practice to change these and our life experience will change as well; it is the law of the Universe!
With love and appreciation,
