FOCUS………..WHAT’S YOUR CHOICE?
Hello again Dear Friends,
Do happier people have less financial problems, less relationship problems, less health issues? Perhaps, but maybe it’s more a case of what we choose to focus on. One of the many elements that differentiate human beings from other animals is our ability to choose our focus.
Both wild and domesticated animals react instinctively with very little thought process, but we humans have the ability (if we use it) to actually choose our focus. It’s our point of focus that generally determines our happiness, not our life circumstances. Let me give you a few recent examples.
Earlier today I phoned a good friend who is a recent stroke victim with partial paralysis. When he answered the phone I asked him how’s he doing? His answer………. “another beautiful day”. What’s your focus when your health is less than desired?
I know two elderly women in their 90’s both of whom recently left their lifetime homes to enter assisted living facilities. One regularly states how fortunate she is to be able to move to such a nice caring facility and the other one constantly complains about how terrible it is to be old and needing to live in her new home. One wears a regular smile and one does not…….it’s all about the choice of focus.
A friend recently confided in me that her on and off seven year relationship with her boyfriend has ended. She told me that most of the time they were together she would complain about his shortcomings and try to change him. Guess what……now that he is gone all she thinks about is all his wonderful traits she took for granted. Where’s your focus on your relationship partners?
When it comes to financial comfort let’s face it that almost everyone would like a little more money, but moment to moment we always have that focus choice. Do we CHOOSE to focus on the bills and all we lack, or do we choose to focus on how fortunate we are to have food in the refrigerator, clean fresh water, and a secure roof over head?
A number of years ago when I first starting speaking publically I would often begin my presentations with the following question “Are you happy when you get what you want…….or do you get what you want when you are happy?” The answer leads to the byproduct of choosing a positive focus. The fact is that choosing a positive upbeat focus not only makes you feel better and happier it will bring to you much more of what you desire.
You’ve all heard of the law of attraction which simply states that like attracts like. Well, what that means is that calm and happiness attracts more calm and happiness, does this make sense? Sure, I understand and teach that there is indeed a very physical element involved in getting what we want, but there also is the vibrational element as well.
THE MANIFESTATIN PROCESS INVOLVES FEELING TODAY AS IF WE ALREADY HAVE THAT WHICH WE DESIRE.
By choosing and deliberately changing our focus we relieve fear and angst and become calmer and happier, and by doing this we begin to manifest much more of what we deeply desire. The key word here is deliberately.
A fun little exercise and game I play with my wife all the time goes like this. In the course of day to day life when the regular stresses come about we always ask each other “What would Buddha do now? Most of us really have little idea what Buddha might do in our circumstances, but we do have a feeling that he would approach the situation with calm, understanding, compassion and love. Try this little exercise sometime and see if it calms you down just a bit, and changes your vibration.
A friend of mine living in the United Kingdom is Neera Menon. She has put together a wonderful website and program on happiness (of which I have participated) and I suggest you take a look http://onlyhappinesscounts.com/AndyFeld
