4 KEYS TO LONGEVITY, HEALTH, AND HAPPINESS
Keep it Simple!
Hello again Dear Friends,
The amount of information available relative to our everyday health and happiness is enormous and sometimes so cumbersome we can become overwhelmed. Like most people I enjoy being happy and healthy and anticipate a lengthy sustained life along these lines. In order to achieve this I try to keep things as simple as possible, with my reasoning being that the simpler things are the more sustainable. I find that if I adhere to the four easy guidelines below my well being follows:
1. Food, we are what we eat- we have all heard it before, but our food is our fuel and to a large degree we physically and emotionally resemble our food intake. The key is moderation, some diversity, and having calorie intake equal calories burned. Fruits, vegetables, grains and fresh water are the basics while keeping all animal product consumption under control. Do you know that for the first time ever the Chinese actually have an obesity epidemic? (Check out the movie Forks over Knives) The cause seems to be directly related to Kentucky Fried Chicken and McDonalds’ and their new ‘western’ diet. Remember that when consuming animal products the food intake of the animal and the emotional health of the animal play a role in how the food affects our bodies as well. All beef, all chicken, and all fish are NOT the same. Do you ever question what might be in a Taco Bell taco which is sold three for a dollar?
Are you still microwaving your foods? Think again, and I urge you to check out and research the affects of microwave cooking on food.
2. Exercise- A body in motion stays in motion, or something like that, you’ve all heard it. Without exercise and motion our bodies (muscles, bones, and joints) atrophy and weaken at a very young age. If you want your body to serve you, you must run your engine and stay mobile throughout your lifetime. I just read that Bob Hope, who lived a long vibrant life, would walk one hour each day of his life.No one needs a gym or a trainer but regular exercise for the heart, muscles and joints, is a requirement to keep your physical body functioning for a long vibrant life. Start with just a walk around the block and then add distance and other activities to alleviate boredom.
3. Abstaining from pharmaceuticals and over the counter drugs-The cells in our body are meant to heal and regenerate themselves on a regular basis as we go through our life, and the use of excessive drugs weakens the ability of our physical body to do this job. The drug companies have done a great job of convincing us that that the key to health and happiness is Prilosec, Lipitor, Prozac, and Ibuprofen. How many of you are regular users of one or all four of these? They are numbing your senses and immune system.
When western medicine and pharmaceuticals are a necessity they can be of great benefit, but our goal should be a daily life free of drugs, thereby allowing our cells to do their job.
4. Thoughts and Emotions- Just as important to our well being as our food intake, our exercise, and our drug intake is the state of our thoughts and emotions. Negative fearful thoughts and emotions will rob our physical bodies of energy and health and understanding the power of these elements is a key to lasting good health and happiness. How do we get control of and change our thoughts and emotions? I know of no better way than a regular practice of meditation and it is easy to begin with many teachers available. For example Deepak Chopra and Oprah are just completing a free 21 trial meditation where you can learn the basics. You may wish to try a six week course taught by my wife Julie Feldwww.freetobe.co called Mental Mastery through Meditation.
There you have it, four short simple ways we can all live longer and live happier. Yes it takes some effort, some practice, and some discipline, but are the results worth it, you decide? Life is meant to be fun and healthy; slow down, smile, turn off the news, take a walk in nature and just observe inwardly how you feel.
With Love and Appreciation,
