THE COURAGE TO THINK LONG TERM
Hello again Dear Friends, The month of May will be off and running for me with two local speaking events. We will have what has become our regular monthly gathering at Full Moon Books in Lakewood Tuesday May 3rd and a business group the following evening. Later in the month on the 12th I will be in Wyoming to keynote their annual mortgage lenders convention. Hope to see many of you. www.andyfeld.net I have sat down to write my third book, and this time along with the critical themes of how to create our life experience and understanding our spirit self, I am also addressing what is going on with our government and business institutions. Does anyone notice or even care what we are in the process of doing to our future generations, our children and grandchildren and beyond? Why are we not making prudent long term political and financial decisions? The answer should be very obvious. If you had a job that paid six figures plus, had lots of perks, great retirement benefits, and large amounts of prestige would you want to keep it at all cost? Well, I have just described our federally elected officials. The facts are that we continue as a nation, even with token changes being discussed, to spend money far in excess of our capacity. Our (The United States and other nations) answer is to print and borrow money at a staggering pace, allow jobs to go overseas and somehow convince ourselves that in time everything will just work itself out. Go do some personal research; with just defense, interest on our debt, social security, and Medicaid we are underwater not including countless other programs. Who is going to pay for all of this? That’s right, the generations to come. Can you imagine any politician coming forward and actually saying that we need to cut all the programs above and yes, even raise taxes as well? What kind of political future would he have? I know some think all we need to do is tax the rich, but do the math. There are not enough millionaires and billionaires to even make a dent. We are heading for a big fall unless we make some difficult painful long term decisions right now and stop leaving all of this to our children. If our government is run by people making two, four, and six year electoral cycle decisions our corporate business models are even worse. In order for a CEO to keep his job he obviously must have happy shareholders and a happy board of directors. Unfortunately, in most cases this means being focused on quarter by quarter results and annual reports. Such short term thinking may be good for your retirement plan, but is it good for overall job creation and our environment? I think not always. So, what we have right now is a society where, out of our own self interest, we support politicians and business people who continue to make dangerous short term decisions to keep everybody comfortable for now. How long do you really think this can last? The answer can only be that we wake up, recognize, and act from a principle of Universal Oneness. This is an understanding that we are all connected; human beings, animals, and Planet Earth. This is not just another economic cycle which will right itself, all is different this time. If we care about our planet and our children we must balance our fiscal budgets, create jobs, call for corporate responsibility, and recognize the spiritual connection we all have and the love which is needed to hold it all together. I know it is a tall order, but it must start somewhere and NOW! Thanks so much for your continued support and personal responses to these letters and my speaking engagements. I assure you that I read each and every one. With Love and Appreciation. Andy |
